Hida-Takayama, a sightseeing spot representative of Gifu, has preserved the feeling of a castle town, apparent by its history-filled streets and historical temples and shrines.
Takayama festival held in spring and fall is known as one of Japan's three most beautiful. Ornate floats crafted by Hida artisans are pulled around, and Takayama becomes truly aive. When visiting Takayama, you can certainly savor the arts , culture and local food while enjoying the feel of the ancient city.

The old streets of Takayama
Sanmachi, the east side of a Miyagawa river in Takayama is an old castle town, apparent by its history-filled streets with the latticed bay windows and linked eaves of merchants' houses from the Edo period (17c-19c). Visitors can fully enjoy the feel of a quiet and idyllic atmosphere.
Many of the tradition handicrafts are availale as souvenirs.

Takayama Jinya
The Takayama Jinya building was used as a public office for about 270 years from 1695 to 1969. Then, restoration was carried out to revive the atmosphere of the Edo period. Pine trees and gravel lanes, contrast favorably with beautiful white walls.

Hida Kokubunji
Hida Kokubunji
There is a huge ginkgo tree over 1000 years old and a Triple Pagoda on the pagoda grounds, as well as the Bell Tower Gates, said to have been moved from Takayama Castle. The cornerstone of the pagoda was built over 1200 years ago. The main temple building is the oldest structure in the city, constructed in the Muromachi era. It has a style worthy of its reputation as Hida's greatest ancient temple.
