Nagaragawa Hot Springs
Back
Though the Nagara River is best known for Ukai (cormorant fishing), it also offers hot spring bathing experiences in Western- and Japanese-style hotels along its course. Because the water here contains iron, it turns brownish red as soon as it gushes out of the spring. Soak yourself in this unique water in the shadows of the magnificent Gifu Castle of Oda Nobunaga, and imagine the excitement of life in the Age of Civil Wars. After the bath, stroll the streets of the nearby Kawaramachi district, where traditional architecture is well preserved.
