Gujo Hachiman prospered as a castle town in the 16th century and even today preserves old streets defined by Bengara-goshi lattice.
There are many souvenir stores and individual art museums lining the quaint street.
In the summer is Gujo Odori (Gujo Dance), with 400-year history, it is a dance that last for 30 nights. The four days of the climax are called Tetsuya Odori (All-Night Dance) and tourists join in to dance from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. the next morning. |

| Streets Along a Waterway |
| There are atmospheric streets along the waterway in Gujo Hachiman such as Igawa Komichi where vivid carp and ayu swim in the water ways and at Yanaka Mizu no Komichi where willows drape down. Taking a leisurely walk in this castle town is high recommended. |

Take a bus from Gujo Hachiman station for 10 minutes and get off at Jokamachi plaza. |

| Gujo Hachiman Castle |
| The Gujo Hachiman castle was built in 1559 on the top of Hachiman mountain at a height of 354 meters. It has a tower which is a four layer wooden structure of 5 stories and commands views of the whole town. Cherry trees in spring and autumnal leaves in autumn can be enjoyed. |
