This charming city, often called “Little Kyoto,” is certain to surprise a visitor with a new discovery at every visit. Changing seasons provide different backgrounds to the city’s many historic and cultural sites, and the festivals in spring and autumn bring a lot of excitement. The hot water flowing out of springs in this city, containing sodium and sodium hydrogen carbonate, soothes tired muscles and leaves the body toasty warm.

The Miyagawa market, which stretches from Kajibashi to Yayoibashi, isn’t just for tourists. It’s where the locals shop for their own kitchen needs.

Art & Festa Forest In Takayama
A museum compound is located just a 10-minutes drive from the Takayama railroad station. Displayed in a huge underground “geo-dome” are replicas of the six glittering floats, used in the Takayama autumn festival. Also on display are Japan’s largest Taiko drum and gold-lacquered screens depicting festivals around Japan.
